John Rigby-Jones on Ground Stiffness Surveys

The Keighley Association of Engineers is pleased to announce its June event in the 2016 syllabus, an illustrated talk by John Rigby-Jones – BEng(Hons) MSc EurIng CEng MICE – on Ground Stiffness Surveys. Accurate and reliable knowledge of ground stiffness is key to the economical design of foundations to civil engineering structures. Ground stiffness has traditionally been measured either by crude field testing combined with questionable empirical relationships; laboratory testing of typically unrepresentative soil samples; or for the largest projects using expensive full scale load tests or complex and time consuming insitu measurement techniques.
