This award was open to Year 9 and Year 10 students studying Engineering and/or Design & Technology.
Situation
GESIPA have recently launched a brand new Rivet tool called the i-Bird Pro. The new i-Bird is a smart tool that can be connected to a smartphone or tablet using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth via the GESIPA app. Gesipa would like a stand to hold the tool and accessories on a desktop, as either a workstation or a display stand.
Design Brief
To ensure that the tool is ready for a demonstration or for use in the work area, Gesipa would like the i-Bird Pro stand to have the features below.
- The display stand or workstation must have the GESIPA logo prominent.
- It must be able to hold the tool in a safe and stylish free standing manner.
- There should be adequate space for a spare battery and the charger.
- There should be space for the smart device.
Rules
- The competition can be run in school or at home, any time in the Spring Term, between Christmas and Easter.
- The final submission date to Keighley Association of Engineers is 9.00am on Monday 29th April 2019 to allow time for judging before our annual dinner and award presentation.
Requirements
An A3 design folder comprising of:
- One sheet of research and investigation into innovative and creative designs, similar products and the products of Gesipa.
- Two sheets of initial ideas and models (hand produced and for CAD/CAM).
- One sheet of development showing progression towards the final design.
- A maximum of two sheets of working drawings/orthographic drawings/parts drawing to enable 3rd party manufacture.
Both the design folder and model / Prototype need to be submitted by the deadline date

- Highly Commended: £50.00 Assisted by the legacy left by Frank Watson, Bruce MacDougall & Charlie Curtis
The awards will be presented at the Keighley Association of Engineers Annual Dinner in May 2019 to the lucky winners, who will be invited along with a Guest to accept the award from our President and representative from Gesipa.
Winners of the prize will also be given free membership to the Keighley Association of Engineers whilst they are in full time education
This award could be vital for students when looking at applying for apprenticeships with local engineering and design companies.
