On Thursday 7th November 2013, we visited Airbus Ltd, Broughton
Broughton, remembered for manufacture of aviation classics such as De Havilland’s Comet and Mosquito is now responsible for assembling the wings for all Airbus civil aircraft. The site employs almost 6,000 people primarily in manufacturing, but also in engineering and support functions such as procurement and finance.
We visited the A350 XWB wing production plant. The wings for this new aeroplane incorporate a large amount of fibre composite material to achieve weight reduction and compete with the Boeing Dreamliner, so it will be a bit different from the A380 line previously visited.
