President’s report:

As we approach the end of 2017 and the first half of our 2017-2018 syllabus, I am pleased
to announce that so far it has been a very well attended and varied series of events. I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who has been involved with making the events
successful; from the companies allowing us to visit, guest speakers, to the council members working behind the scenes to organize everything and the members for supporting us, I thank you all as without your continued support none of this would
be possible!

I am sure you are all now aware that the Frank Watson prize has now been retired and we, the council, have been working hard on coming up with a new and meaningful award to be able to present at the next annual dinner.

This new award named “The Keighley Association of Engineers Young Engineers Award” is to be aimed at students in years 9 and 10 (age 13-15) studying Engineering and / or Design Technology.

We are getting local companies involved in the prize by asking them to sponsor the first prize and assist the association in setting the task for the prize. The idea behind this is that local companies will then start to recognize the prize as an achievement which will enhance student CV’s when applying for apprenticeships in engineering
with local companies.

Runner up prize and a highly commended prize will also be awarded to students by the Association of Engineers, assisted by the legacy left by Frank Watson & Charlie Curtis. Along with the first price a trophy will be awarded and will be kept at the winning students school for the year of the award.

Winners of the Keighley Association of Engineers Young Engineers Award will also be given free membership to the association whilst they are in full time education.

Further information on this along with an entry form can be found on our website, www.kaoe.org.uk or on our Facebook page.

As your president I feel very proud and honoured to be able to be involved in helping develop this new award, and I am looking forward to seeing the quality of the entries for the prize. I urge all of the local schools to encourage their students to enter this competition and help us launch this new award and make it a success.

We still have places left on our council and would welcome any members to come along to a council meeting and get involved with the association. We have a council meeting once a month, so come along and join in, don’t be shy!

We also have a vacancy for Vice President still, should any council member wish to put themselves forward for this role, contact me or the Hon. Secretary.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and guests a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. I hope to see you at our up and coming events in 2018.

Best Regards,
John Richardson – President
