SUMMARY:Martin Lunn M.B.E. on “Hidden under the Carpet”
DESCRIPTION:The Keighley Association of Engineers is pleased to announce its May 2024 event\, a talk by Martin Lunn M.B.E. on “Hidden under the Carpet”. \nMartin is a renowned local speaker. His talk will follow the forgotten story of Edward Crossley and Joseph Gledhill of Crossley Carpets. \nCrossley Carpets made carpets which were exported around the world. What is less well known is that Edward Crossley and his employed assistant astronomer Joseph Gledhill had an observatory with the largest reflecting telescope in England. The two  astronomers made massive contributions to the study of astronomy and after their deaths\, Crossley’s two big telescopes\, the 36 inch Common reflector and the 9.3 inch Cooke refractor\, continued to be used in astronomical research. \nGuests are most welcome to attend. Please book your places with your Secretary John Pankhurst. Telephone : 07582 822922 email kaoe2022@gmail.com \nPlease Park in the car park by the railway bridge off Lawkholme Lane and walk up Lawkholme Lane towards Keighley Centre. Take the first right through the gates and go to Main Reception opposite (not the door to your right which we have used in the past). Inside we will be escorted in groups to a lift up to floor 2 and then steps to floor 3. \nPlease wait for someone to let you in or call John Pankhurst to let us know you are waiting. \nView the flyer for Martin Lunn on “Hidden under the Carpet”

SUMMARY:2023 Summer Social at New Quarry House
DESCRIPTION:After feedback from Members at our March 2023 Annual General Meeting we have decided to have a Summer Social. This will be a cold buffet and a choice of sweets. The cold buffet will include assorted sandwiches\, meat\, fish\, pork pies\, scotch eggs\, sausages\, cold pizza\, samosas.\n\n If you have special dietary requirements\, please include these on your reply slip which should be sent to John McCluskey with payment no later than 1st July 2023.\n\nAny speeches will be very short ones to allow this event to be a less formal one giving more chance for mingling and socialising. There will be no seating plan – just choose your company and where you wish to sit.\n\nOur New Quarry House venue has a large Barn which should ensure we have an informal enjoyable evening.\n\nYou will see that we have managed to hold the cost to £10 per person to encourage as many members and guests as possible to attend\, and to celebrate with us our full return to normal activities.\n\nJohn Pankhurst Secretary kaoe2023@gmail.com\n\nView the flyer and reply slip Summer Social

SUMMARY:Visit to Allerton Waste Recovery Park
DESCRIPTION:The Keighley Association of Engineers is pleased to announce our April event in our 2023 syllabus\, a visit to Allerton Waste Recovery Park\, Knaresborough. \nAllerton Waste Recovery Park is a state-of-the-art centre where we will see the present and the future of recycling a wide variety of waste. \nAllerton Waste Recovery Park is a state-of-the-art facility treating ‘black bag’ waste from households across the county. \nThe site became operational in March 2018 and employs 90 local people. Through a unique combination of three technologies\, it is reducing the amount of household waste from North Yorkshire being sent to landfill by at least 90%. \nThis is done by: \n\nSorting ‘black bag’ waste using mechanical treatment technology to extract and recycle items.\nProcessing around 40\,000 tonnes of food and organic waste each year to generate renewable energy.\nUsing the remaining non-recyclable waste to generate enough energy to power at least 40\,000 homes.\n\nPlease let John McCluskey know you are coming by Friday 14th April to assist with planning (this is open to ladies/guests) at jjmccluskey@btopenworld.com 07585 126503 \nYou can see much more about Allerton Park on their website \nView the flyer for the visit to Allerton Waster Recovery Park

SUMMARY:2022 Christmas cheer and social
DESCRIPTION:Dear all members\, old and new. \n\n\n\nOn Monday the 12th December we will be having our monthly council meeting\, but this month instead of having it at our usual office-based location\, we are going to have the meeting in the Brown Cow pub located at the bottom of West Lane in Keighley. \n\n\n\nWe would like to openly invite all members to come along after our council meeting for a social evening and a light buffet and to spread a bit of festive cheer. \n\n\n\nHopefully this will give new members who may not have had the chance to come along to one of our events\, an opportunity to meet other members and to get to know your council members. \n\n\n\nWe still have spaces on the council\, so If any members wish to come along to the council meeting prior to the social evening you are welcome to do so. \n\n\n\nMany times\, at events we do not get much chance to talk to each other and find out about our members engineering backgrounds\, so this will give myself and the council more time to get to know our members. \n\n\n\nOur council meeting will start at 6.45pm and we invite members to come along from 7.30pm onwards for the social evening. \n\n\n\nPlease can you reply to kaoe2022@gmail.com if you plan to come along so we can plan numbers for catering. \n\n\n\nWe hope to see many of our members supporting this social event. \n\n\n\nYours Sincerely\,\nJohn Richardson\nPresident – Keighley Association Of Engineers \n\n\n\nFor more information Christmas Social 2022
